S5 Maps

I am looking for an on-line source for topographic maps of Slovenia. I found a place where you can order them, but what I am interested in is a free access. Any ideas?

A free access to high quality topographic maps of Austria is here: http://www.austrianmap.at
Interface is only available in German though…

In my last holiday to F/ON/LX/OE/S5 I made very good use of my Garmin NUVI 1490 and GPS60, every road is on the maps, I used SOTA Points of Interest (POI) to find a nearby summit. In countries like OE/S5 any camping is near a lot of summits hi hi. I made the POI list from a CSV file.
I did not plan my holiday very much so had to be prepared for a big part of Europe. No Internet at the camping sites, so planned all via a Garmin map in the laptop. Amazing that you can find a very small unpaved road near the top in that way. First time little creepy to drive a road so small and unpaved, but they all brought us to the summits … and back in one piece.
Of course a little help from locals ( FB SOTA hams in OE/S5 ) helped a lot. So next time I use my 2mtr porto more hi hi.

CU agn in the pile up, can not wait for the next holiday!

Isn’t there a requirement that you actually have to WALK or ride a bicycle up to the summit ?

Hans, neem het ff niet kwalijk maar ik vind niet in-line met het idee van SOTA als je met jouw auto helemaal tot de “summit” rijt.

Hi Zoli,

Well perhaps I did not explain it good. I try to find a parking place “near” a summit, but often have to walk for one or more hours. The fun is in the walking, if I want to collect points, there are better summits than the one I chose. Several summits in OE/S5 took really the maximum of our “climbing” skills hi hi. The S5-locals were impressed that we reached the S5/KS-027 summit. It took us nearly 3 hours to get the 595 mtrs up ( 4.6 km ), partially with hand and feet ( GPS-info ). That’s why the Dutch “summits” do not interest me much, although two of them are only 1 our driving from home qth.
It would be better if the points are according the difficulty, but I think that’s not possible.

Perhaps I try to acivate some HA summits in the next holiday, still want to activate 10 countries ( 3 to go ).
