Might I suggest you stop popping up in every thread advocating for the reorganisation in of your local association? Just saying.
It’s an open discussion forum, isn’t it? Just sharing a constructive idea for those interested. No pressure to read or reply!
We currently have 181,658 summits listed and more are added every year. Probably most of those summits are owned by individuals, organisations or governments. Ownership does not necessarily mean that there is no access, so it is not enough to just establish ownership, and access often can only be established on the ground. In any case, the time of the summits team is scheduled for many months ahead assembling data for new Associations, centralised monitoring of access is impractical. This is why every summit page is set up to facilitate feedback from participents. If you find that an access restriction has spoiled your planned activation, don’t fume at the MT, use the feedback facility on the summit page so that nobody else will have to suffer the same frustration. If you find a way of gaining permission to activate a restricted access summit, detail it in the summit page for the benefit of others - after all, you might need a complete!
This!
Every activator can update the summit page notes in real time, no wait for local or central managers.
When planning to activate a new summit, the summit page is a good place to start. If it lacks useful information, then update it, it only takes a minute or two.
This is very true.
I already noticed several times that summits that used to be “drive-on” or were quite easy to reach by car require now a long or difficult walk because access is now forbidden to vehicles.
Only activators who notice such things can share them, and only collective work can help keeping the information about summits up to date and useful for everyone.
So why not spend some time to update the summit pages instead of … (whatever you call some parts of this thread).
It is. BUT it is common courtesy to keep the individual threads “on topic”.
This thread is about summits with physically restricted access. Lets keep it that way.
As official Moderator I have a very relaxed attitude to thread drift. It seems to be a prevalent feature of all the ham forums (fora?) that I frequent and I think it is an inherent ham characteristic, probably an extension of on-air ragchewing! On the other hand I try to put a stop to fractious and argumentative behaviour as quickly as possible, nothing degrades a forum more quickly than that. I think this little diversion from the main topic should now end (hint).
