Today the weather forecast for central Italy indicated the possibility of finding good weather only in the morning and therefore the choice was for a not too high and easily accessible mountain. Together with Emanuele IZ0ETE, the regional manager for Lazio and Abruzzo we decided to activate Monte Tancia I/LZ-051 a peak of 1292 meters. in the group of the Sabina mountains which can be reached in about an hour and a half on foot with 500 mt. of altitude.
We left early and by 10:00 we were already on our way to the path that leads to the top. As soon as we reached the summit we realized that our window of good weather was going to be very short-lived and quickly enough we set up our two stations. I chose the 30 meters cw and Emanuale first the 17 and then the 20 meters always cw.
We managed to pass the ceiling of about ten qsos and then we realized that the weather was changing rapidly and before hearing thunder we disassembled our Elecraft Kx2 and Kx3 and vertical antennas. Time to start the descent and a good rain caught us on the return path and followed us almost to the car park.
Luckily we were equipped and the rain didn’t spoil a good activation and a day on the mountain. After 11 km of walk an excellent beer and a plate of pasta (carbonara) concluded the day in the best possible way
