I owned a 1200 GS adventure for nearly 10 years (the first liquid cooled engine). Whilst it was a pleasure to ride, I found it was always an expensive bike to maintain once it got into the deeper maintenance cycles (BMW started raising their prices) and it was heavy on fuel when loaded up and doing motorway speeds (I’d be lucky to get 45mpg / 5 L/100km).

I ride a Triumph Tiger 800 now. I do miss the shaft drive and not having to maintain a chain, but it’s just as comfortable as the GS was, and still got 65mph this weekend even loaded up like a pack mule!

I’ve been keeping my eye on eBay for an R90 to see if I can get an old one in need of restoration. I just need the garage space to do it

Looking at the weather forecast, most of France is going to be experiencing nice sunny weather with 20-25 deg. C temps for the next week. There is a reasonable chance I will be in the Vosges this weekend I think (Sat/Sun). I let ping you a mail when I get in the area.

Cheers,

Dave.

Repeat after me 100 times: “Andorra does not do reciprocal amateur licences.”

They have done some reciprocal licences but you need to pique the authorities interests and you wont do that with SOTA.

Armin,

Just so I’m sure, If I were to park on he grass here, would I get in trouble? In the UK I would be happy to park (no lines on the road etc.), but I’m hoping the rules are similar in France!

Thanks in advance, again!

You could park in the car park area that’s only 175m North from there.

I did notice that , but there are other places where there might not be car parks. I was trying to understand the French attitude to parking on the verge for more general awareness than that specific location!

For FL/VO-080 and FL/VO-170 I always park in the middle between the two summits at 48.00494, 6.97847… because I always activate them together one after the other.

There’s always room for a motorcycle.

I will write you my parking suggestions for the summits recommended above …this afternoon.

Hi Dave,
Here are three small peaks that you can easily reach by motorcycle.

I’m staying in a (very nice) rural hotel about 20km outside Riems.

I’ve repacked all my panniers and top box at least 15 times since getting my equipment together, and repacked twice at this hotel! :joy: I think I have everything organised now…

I should be arriving at the Vosges mountains tomorrow, and I’ll start planning which summits to activate and put out some alerts. Might be some showers tomorrow, but the weather should improve all weekend and be really nice next week.

Thanks for everyone’s help with summit suggestions and other info.

Cheers,

Dave
