Poor sig on 17m

Appologies for my poor signal on 17m yesterday. My dipole has a third guy line on a kite winder. When I set up, I pegged out the guy line as one end of the dipole & left half the dipole wound up on a kite winder thinking it was string. I did wonder about the poor SWR, but did mangage to work N4EX & AE4FZ, just shows what good ears those guys have.

Hi Steve;

I guess that means that you really were working on a piece of wet string :slight_smile:

Better conditions on 17m than when we worked s2s on 12m, Steve!

The dipole seemed to be the way to go yesterday. My vertical was having none of it from Shining Tor …on any of the bands. There was a dipole in my car, however, having made 2 journeys up and down to the summit of Shining Tor on Monday (forgot my mobile) I wasn’t that desperate for 12m contacts :frowning:

Catch you on the next one…

Your post made me laugh Steve. Amazing similarity to the antenna that I used to work you yesterday afternoon from Bolehill G/HSP-005. Roger G0TRB had tipped me off that you were calling on 24.950MHz, but unfortunately I had lowered the HF antenna and only had the 2m delta loop up at the time. I therefore unpacked the HF antenna, left the “earthy” side (no balun) on its winder and ran a few feet of the “live” side out along the fence in front of me and called you using 2.5W from the 817. At least it worked!
