That is disgusting. If it was some whopper pylon contraption and about 5 different 687ft rotating yagis slapped on the roof, you’d half understand.

I’ve seen washing line poles that are more of an eyesore. Jesus wept. Leave the fella alone to enjoy his radios.

Looking at all the major power lines running through the neighborhood, seems like Ray’s antenna is like a needle in a haystack.

“…harmful effect on neighbours…” - perhaps that was the key? Plenty of paranoid folks around.

UK planning authorities cannot consider such effects so that is an immediate grounds for appeal.

I drive past it regularly. Whilst I might be slightly biased as a fellow radio enthusiast I have to say that his set up is fairly low key - a couple of poles (not much higher than his house) with some thin wires and a white stick. I’d be far more concerned about the visual and health impacts of the electricity pylons. The house just across the road had a white stick and G5RV for years until the previous owner moved a couple of years ago. I can think of more important issues for the council to spend their time on

Ray needs an experienced bylaws lawyer to help with an appeal or lodgement of an application for a replacement set of masts. Councils usually on act after a complaint. Was it really the masts or is there more to this. Is Rays yard tidy? Does he need a gardener?

In VK you do not need a planning permit for masts up to 8 m high.

In VK as in the UK amateur operation is contingent on maximum field strengths not being exceeded. If Ray can get help.with that it may also help. That should cover the safety aspect for the neighbours.

The Wireless Institute of Australia provides support for its members in these situations. Another good reason for being member.

I hope Ray is able to reach a compromise and continue to operate.

Yes, the last shot says it all, panning across his road showing the electricity pylons and telephone wires but apparently he is not allowed to erect a glorified washing line!

(I should add - I do not use Facebook, I found this by searching for his callsign, which I read from the “On Air” sign on his desk")

Good to read that. Hopefully the RSGB will give Ray the support he deserves. Absolutely shameful carry-on. Lets hope he gets sorted soon.

Just wondering if there could be some pro-active action taken, in the likes of engaging Ofcom or whatever authority who checks radiation levels. Just to at least have a backing “no harmful radiation to neighbors” document for the appeal ? Well, that could be two fold, but doubt Ray is running kWs.
