Hello folks,
just some quick words to let you know why both of my activations today were rather short.
The plan was to escape the rain that was forecasted for my home QTH, so I decided to drive north to the Czech Republic and activate two (not yet completed) summits by mountainbike. Unfortunatelly the weather was not much better there
On the first summit OK/JC-028 it was rather cold for August and raining from time to time. So I decided to skip shortwave and try to activate the summit on 2m FM only. Luckily @OE5DZL came back to my call and another summit is now “completed”. Only two QSOs, so I did not manage to get the 10 points … but points are not that important.
With keeping my first activation short I managed to catch the 12:00 ferry across lake lipno (otherwise I would have to wait another 60 minutes).
On my drive up to the second summit OK/JC-128 the sun came out once or twice and the rain stopped completely when I arrived at the summit.
After a few contacts on 20m suddenly another rainshower came down and I had to stop for about 10 minutes to stay dry. Afterwards I could work some stations on 40m … but I was not in the mood for staying long on this summit too. In the tourist town of LIPNO the sun came out for some time and I could dry my wet clothes.
On the way back to the car I passed a memorial site at the OK/OE border where a piece of the “Iron Curtain” is still there. I was 11 years old when they tore down the barbed wire from the border and have almost no memory about these events … so I think it’s good that these absurdities of history can still be visited. Let’s hope these times never come back!
On my mountainbike tour today I cycled 58 kilometers and 1050 vertical meters. I also managed to activate and complete two summits. What a great day, you don’t need good weather to have a nice day outdoors!
