I am making a big push towards mountain goat and so I am currently planning and doing activations of the high-value peaks of GW/NW and GW/SW. As a consequence, I have enjoyed many summit-to-summit (S2S) contacts and this has considerably boosted my chaser total. On Wed 4 Aug 2021, I set off for GW/SW-001 and was on the summit at 0836 when GW4TQE/P called S2S from GW/MW-013. This took my chaser total to 992 and then 994 after S2S with M0WCW/P on G/WB-005. GW6OVD had informed me that he and 2W0IWM were on their way up GW/SW-003. Conditions were great so I had a lie down in the warm sunshine whilst I waited for them to summit. 25 minutes later, I had an S2S with 2W0IWM/P on GW/SW-003 and this brought my chaser total to 1002. I then moved to GW/SW-005 and had a further S2S with GW4TQE/P, still on GW/MW-013. The final hill was GW/SW-007 and this yielded another S2S, EI/G6WBS/P on EI/IE-010. My chaser total is now 1010, with just over half of these, 512 points, being “summit sloth” points – that is chaser points gained from an S2S contact. It’s great to see so many activators out on the hills following lockdown.

Well done Alistair on the Shack Sloth and thanks for the chaser points and s2s from many of your GW summits. Keep going for that Mountain Goat award.

Congratulation! You sounded quite happy on the radio yesterday. I’m sure you’ll bag that Mountain Goat in no time at all.
And thank you for the chaser points! I had a great time sitting out in the garden enjoying the weather and trying to catch some of the people out on the hills for a while and then kept running out every time a spot went up. Amazing how different the weather is today!
Congratulations Alistair on achieving Shack Sloth.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments and support. I had some QSO’s from GW/SW into the Devon and Cornwall counties of England but none with “radio Devon”, G0RQL. Don - I’m in Cornwall 15-22 Aug so hope to catch you from G/DC-007 and maybe one or two other summits (60-40-20-2m ssb and 2m fm). Hopefully with my daughters M7SQT & 2E0DGM.
I know SOTA is non-competitive but couldn’t help noticing that M0HGY is now 3 points behind me in the S2S England league (wow!) and my great friend and mentor M0YDH is the next activator ahead. I have to work next week so no SOTA activations (sad face ).
Happy radio

Well done, Alastair. Sorry I missed you - too busy trying (and failing) to get SW-003 to notice that 8 points was available much nearer home.
The scores provide extra interest and I have often had a little bet with myself as to which target will be achieved first. I think you should make Silver s2s (currently 810) well before you make MG (currently 801) but I doubt you will be next to reach either of them
Hope to catch you before long.73,
Rod
