New Project from CQHQ.co.uk

Hmmm…

I can’t see that a list of links to SOTA activaton videos is itself going to attract take-down attention unless most of the videos are using music they’re not licenced to use. The most likely problem is going to be links that die because vidoes have been removed, and that’ll happen whatever the reason for the video’s removal might be.

There is a responsibility on video producers to ensure that they are permitted to use any background sound-track they choose to use in that way. Usually simply owning a copy of the CD does not confer such rights. It seems Sony and YouTube have done a deal that allows YouTube users to use Sony-licenced music without paying Sony a licence fee, so at least that side is covered (but check the fine print!). Obviously a deal between (say) Sony and YouTube isn’t going to cover a copy of the video hosted on (say) Vimeo. Likewise, there are many other providers of sound track material, and not all of them will have done that sort of deal.

If you’re making a video to post for others to see, and you want to use a sound track, then please make sure you are permitted to use the sound track you’ve chosen legitimately, and that you comply with the conditions imposed on you in return for such use.

Steve,

What about perhaps a page where people can send in links but only have the page accesible by known SOTA Regulars

i did think of something else but probably not very easily doable on a wordpress site (MySQL Database and a form inputting data (link and tags) into a database where someone just has to login as admin and click accept or reject)

I thought along the same lines. Known submitters only keeps out the V!4GRA merchents and the other sub-human scum.

Of course, you should also add a button that can be used to report copyright violations.

If the Wordpress site allow you use one of those Captcha images where you have to enter the characters shown in a generated image that eliminates nearly all bogus posting of such stuff, even if you require registration in order to login and post some low-life still complete the registration process and post junk.

Not so much these days. Sure, it cuts out the bots, but there are plenty of folks who make it their business to find suitable target sites, register themselves (including jumping through the required hoops), and then spew their pork and fish all over (says the forum admin who spent an hour Friday morning cleaning up after one such rampage)…

Just added a page for everyone to add there video links…

YOU Can Add Your SOTA Video Links Here…

Blurb for info…

Add your SOTA video links as a comment on this page. They will then be reviewed and added to main blog, after which the comment will be deleted. Please include any extra information you would like included with the video post such as activator names/calls, personal websites, links to photographs, date, bands and modes worked particularly when the video had minimal information on YouTube/Google Video. You can cross check if a video is already posted here by typing its title as shown on YouTube/Google Video. Links to videos not able to be embedded on this site will be placed on a separate page as and when we get them. Spam filters are in place and unsuitable videos will not be allowed.

Many Thanks Steve GW7AAV
