This past Sunday, October 17, I activated Yonah Mountain W4G/NG-048 and finally topped 1000 pts (that’s points, not pints ) to achieve the coveted rank of Mountain Goat. Thanks very much to all the chasers and S2S activators who made it possible.
Thanks also to the many new friends I’ve made in SOTA, including the operators here in the Southeast, the folks I’ve worked so often that we know each other’s names, and the community here on the Reflector who will answer any question, any time. It’s always great to work an online friend on the air, especially those on other continents (thinking of you, Guru EA2IF!). Wish I could list you all.
Thanks to Bob WK2Y, who braved a cold, dark November day to join me at a hamfest, saw me waffling about whether to buy a used Elecraft KX1, and said “Oh, just get it. You know you want it.” Every qualifying SOTA point has been earned with that rig.
Finally, thanks to Irene, my XYL and among the most avid hikers I know. She realized she could get me out for any mountain hike that included a SOTA summit, and for almost three years has structured the family hikes to help me reach this goal. I’m a lucky guy.
Dear Scott,
My congratulations on achieving MG!
I kind of guessed you were about to get it due to the numerous activations you’ve made lately, some of which I’ve had the pleasure to chase you in.
I’ve been chasing you in 2018, 2019, 2020 and particularly more often on 2021. It’s now time for you to chase me…
I remember our nice chats over Peanut during the nearly Woldwide lockdown period.
You are really lucky with your xyl supporting you on your SOTA activations and that’s something I always missed.
I’ll be looking forward to chasing you many more times and I really hope to be chased by you some day. Let’s see if we can have a S2S on November 6th.
Best wishes for the next 1000 points.
73,
Guru, I regret that I’ll probably miss on the transatlantic S2S. November 6 is the date of our only local hamfest this year, and the only one I’ll be attending. Between the need to pick up some parts, and the desire to see local friends face-to-face, the hamfest probably will get top priority that day. Catch you another time!
