Was it supposed to or many people convinced themselves it should have had it and got disappointed?
The pre-release material explicitly mentions 4m for the units sold in Europe, obviously nothing is final until it hits the shelves or some regulatory paperwork emerges with more details.
Regarding the IC-705, it was stated in the ICOM UK advert in RadCom that it would cover 4m. Later, they had to retract. As with all pre-release announcements, nothing is 100% until the final production units roll off the production line. I believe the issue was that the IC705 used a 90 MHz IF for some of the higher frequencies, and trying to operate at 70 MHz would conflict by some image frequency or something. In any case, I kept my IC7300; I had considered selling it and buying the IC-705 as, at the time, I was using 4 metres a lot. At the moment, 4m is not available in Germany; however, we hope that will change soon.
One of the pictures I’ve seen shows the rig connected up to a laptop using the USB-C port located on the head unit, and no other wires seen going to the main body of the radio. I’m curios if one can have the control head, laptop, and be sitting in camper/tent/POTA park/etc. and using the builit in Wifi, connect up to the main radio body and use it that way ?? And what about those ports for the control head/main radio. Saw some speculation that they are ethernet ports like the newer 7760. Able to control the radio over the internet? RSB1-A software?
I have the 7100 and use it a lot for camping/outdoor use. I find it burdensome to have to run a longer USB cable from my laptop in the tent and back out to the truck where the main radio body sits along with one of those less expensive tuners I picked up off Aliexpress…
Interesting radio non-the-less though…I’ll wait till all the Beta-testers have had it in there hands and all the kinks are worked out first though
Please look at the photos carefully. The ports that look like LAN ports on the main radio body are labeled “MIC” and “CONTROLLER”. I think, as per the IC-7100, the controller must be connected to the control head via cable.
If you’d like not to be tethered to the rig from your PC, the answer is to use Wireless remote control, and control the IC7110 via remote control software over Wifi, (with, for example RS-BA1 v2 or other software), as it would appear that as per the 705, 7300mk2 and others, it has Icom’s remote control server built in.
I still have the bracket that came with my ts-480 to sort of attach the head to the body. It make it one piece but they still remain seperate pieces if you get me. I did take the TS-480 for a couple of SOTA’s at the beginning before i got a Ft817. These Icoms all just look like they stole the separate head idea Kenwood had 20 years ago and haven’t innovated since. Although I’m sure someone will say Kenwood weren’t the first. its the first i remember lol.
