Hello trend setters and fellow SOTA folks.
My time for activating has finished for 2024 now up until New Years morning anyhow. I hope to do plenty of Chasing in the mean time.
I managed to activate 46 summits this year with 2 new ones and revisit the 7 new summits from 2023 having found the best way to hike to them. This year I mostly activated by myself but my wife Halima came along on lots of the hikes and whipped me up the hill most times. I did do a few summits with Hugh VK5NHG and John VK5HAA and take a guest VK5NIH with me on one day trip but he was not keen on getting on air. I ended up with 182 activating points and lifted my average a little to 3.96. Probably 10,000 km of driving in that lot and because the wife came we spent a bit more on accommodation needed for multi activations in certain areas. The old body held up ok so happy to do some more summits next year. I worked out if I do 20 summits with the highest score first next year MG x 2 should be in the log. Something to work towards. Thanks everyone cheers.
Regards
Ian vk5cz …
always a thrill to get you in my log.

Hi Ian
Your enthusiasm for SOTA and driving 10,000 or more km is certainly appreciated by many in VK and more broadly around the world!
Always a pleasure to chase or complete a S2S exchange with you, in some of the most remote locations in Australia. Thanks for the 7 new unique VK5 summits to chase during 2024. I may have missed a couple along the way

Hi Ian,
Well done on this year’s activations and thanks again for including me in two of them.
I think if you look at the numbers, it’s always more productive to pick summits by points value than just randomly activate whatever lies in a certain direction. But randomly activating is fun and fills in the gaps for your log and for others.
