I disagree. eg I’ve phoned HMRC a lot and have been impressed by their competence and willingness to help. But then I would expect them to have the required expertise on tax matters. Ofcom is no different. No one here wants to exaggerate this particular episode but it raises a concern about Ofcom.

I’m just happy that my posts are getting us off the subject, thus allowing a couple of friendly American hams to enjoy their holiday, lovely weather, superb hills and friendly chasers.
BTW I had to set up an online tax account because i couldn’t get through to HMRC on the phone.

On another point, don’t you just love it when somebody somewhere says/writes something like “You can also read a report on the antenna in September’s #RadCom (or, substitute #QST or similar)” ? Not if you’re not a RSGB (ARRL etc.) member, you can’t, as many millions aren’t…

I have lost count of the number of times I have heard people harping on about how there should be a licence fee and how they would be happy to pay! The one thing you have forgotten is that it is all very well saying “people employed on National Minimum Wage” however, there is also employers’ Tax and NI contributions, and of course, pension contributions. Your twenty-pound licence isn’t going very far! When I have pointed this out in the past, people seem to get a bit uppity and say they are willing to pay more, thinking just because they have a bit of money, they can flash the cash to get undesirables to leave the bands, it doesn’t work that way!

I welcome you all to make similar errors in good faith in my town! We’ve got great hills here in California.
