Mt. Mortxe EA2/NV-073 by EA2IF/P on 19/03/2014

It was a holiday for me today as we celebrate St. Joseph and the father’s day.
My first name is José and I’m father of 3 kids, so I had a lot to celebrate today and I did it the best way: activating a new summit.
I met Ignacio (EA2BD) early this morning and we decided that instead of going together for a common activation, he would activate one summit and I would do another one not far from his.
Yesterday was a horrible cloudy, very windy and pretty cold day, so I was expecting about the same for today, but nothing even similar.
As fathers we are, Ignacio and I have got the gift from mother nature consisting of a beautiful sunny day, perfect for SOTA.

We enjoyed a perfect SOTA morning. I collected the following number of QSOs:
1 on 20m SSB
31 on 30m CW
7 on 12m CW
15 on 20m CW
and the batteries went dead.
Working conditions were again my FT-817ND @ 5 watts and my telescopic fishing rod 7 m long wire vertical with 8 radials on ground.

Thanks to all chasers for being there letting us have so much fun.
This is the picture Ignacio took me when I was just getting back to the car after a great mountain and radio day:

In reply to EA2IF:

Guru, you are completely right, I was expecting all but having such a nice weather today.
4 days ago I had very strong winds and I had to activate hidden behind the block of the trig point.
Today it was really like a summer day: no wind at all, the pole was straight up without any problem, and temperature was getting warm. I activated EA2/NV-070,just opposite to Guru’s mountain.

Here my numbers:
1 on 2m FM
21 on 20m CW
29 on 20m SSB
5 on 12m SSB
12 on 12m CW

Propagation was good, sometimes I could hear strong stations on 12m calling with echoes…

And I was most than astonished to sum up 6 S2S!
A great day, I couldn’t believe that for a normal wednesday (working day). And doing that in companion of Guru is a real bonus!
Thanks Santi EA2BSB for your support on VHF too.

In reply to EA2BD:
Such a pity I missed you, Ignacio! We’ll must try another day, ok?
:frowning:

In reply to EA2CW:
Right Mikel,

I kept an eye on the spots, and I even tried to work you on 20m before disassemblying my station, but your signals were faint at the time, and you were deep in your own pile-up.
We’ll have another chance for sure ;o)

Thanks for the QSOs with both of you.

In reply to HA5LV:
Thank you Viktor, always a pleasure!

In reply to HA5LV:
Szia Viktor,
It was very nice to QSO with you again from a summit.
You have already chased me 3 times this year while activating summits, once per month. Thank you very much!
I’ll be looking forward to copying you again soon.

I have edited this old activation report to add some pictures.
I hope you’ll enjoy them.
