Was Colwyn REALLY in Sweden at 11:15 UTC this morning? That is certainly what the spot infers, and there was no subsequent correction.

He was at 1032Z,

It’s left as an exercise for the 21st century followers of Ned Ludd to see why he may have been spotted without a leading SM2 at other times.

Thanks! Very good. Yes, it was the absence of the SM2/ prefix that confused me.

If I had a time machine I could write (and debug) a lot more software. Though if I did have a time machine I’d go back in time and make myself a benign despot so I didn’t have to work!
The SMS spotter magically transforms “!” as a callsign into the correct UK callsign depending on the summit it sees. i.e. makes MM0FMF into MW0FMF/P if I’m in Wales. I always intended to extend it so if it saw CT3 it put CT9 in front of your call. Then I realised the scale of that… I need a database of callsign root to CEPT status and a database of association code to CEPT status and CEPT prefix. It would be cool if it did take MM0YCJ and make in SM2/MM0YCJ. But it’s not worth the effort.
Spots suggest “X” is maybe on summit “Y” on freq. “F”… it’s up to you to check that “X” is the correct call and “Y” is the correct ref. Some naughty people (we know who many of you are) will not hear “X” or “Y” on “F” but will log it anyway.

Oh well done to Colwyn. I enjoyed activating it a few years ago. It’s a lovely little hill with a brick column on the summit for antenna support. Given it’s proximity to Malmo and Copenhagen you’d think it would get activated more and/or 2m contacts would be easier to come by than they were [nil!]. Great views of the straits and Hamlet’s castle too.

Hi Walt, yes I actually enjoyed a very sunny and pleasant activation in southern Sweden this morning. My legs are bit sunburnt now. I usually put the correct callsign at the end of the spot, but was forced to carry out some field repairs to my antennae caused by SAS and forgot. Hope to be out tomorrow as well.

Hi David,
brick columns are still there, and I used them in identical fashion. Summit is a bit overgrown now, compared to earlier photos, but but enough for a 40m IV dipole.
