Happy for all other contacts as well of course. I will be running SSB QRP from DL/BE-094 on Easter Sunday 20th. April, hoping to catch the long path window to VK again.

Hi Ed,
I was pleasantly surprised to hear your signal at good readability this evening. Initially I heard nothing and went pottering around the bands until you alerted on 14.300. There you were! Some QSB and QRM meant I did not have armchair copy but it was a fairly easy QSO. Amazing for 5 W. Your signal was down on the noise by the time you went QRT so you have the timing for the VK window pretty right.
Thanks for the QSO.
Hope to catch you on another summit soon.

Hi Ed,
Many thanks for your efforts today. Our contact was my first S2S with EU. And the dipole was not oriented for EU! I was running only 5 W to an inverted V dipole.
May there be more in the future.
Cheers,

Thanks Guys for what turned out to be a very successful EU-VK activation - here are the stats:
Summit activated (first four contacts) with only VK calls (not planned - just a bonus). Two of these four were S2S.
4 x S2S (3 VK and 1 GM).
8 VK contacts in all.
22 contacts overall from VK1,2,3 & 5, KA3, EH1, YO7&8, YL2, EA1&2, LA, OH, LZ1, GM and G0.
Thanks guys for being there - it really shows what can be done with 10w and a dipole! I ran my small amp on the FT817 today - I’m guessing 10w output as I didn’t have a power meter and it was running directly off the 11v Lipo rather than 13.8v.

This morning at 04:45UTC I decided to activate St Boniface Down G/SE-008 on the Isle of Wight, hoping to hear some VK activators/chasers.
I was a little early, with 1 local station heard, but as soon as the sun appeared over the horizon … things changed …
VK 20m cw … VK3GHZ, VK3AFW, VK2IO, VK5CZ, VK2UH, VK2IB/P S2S,
VK 20m ssb …VK3ASC/P S2S,
EU 20m cw, G, RD, LZ, OM, OK, OE, HA.
Rig … KX3 @ 5W … plus Goat Paddles
Antenna …1/4wave vert 4 el radials
Thanks to everyone for the contacts.

Hi Rob,
It was a pleasure to contact you. After working you I went for a constitutional and came back an hour later. I was surprised to find you still coming thru but with no takers hence the second call. You did well especially the phone contact. Hope to work again soon. 100 W here to a not particularly good 4 ele beam at 12 m.

Hi Rob
It was great to catch you on 14MHz CW today. I was on Mt Stanley VK3/VE-126 for my second activation of the day. I was using the somewhat cumbersome callsign VK2IB/3 (portable 3) as I was operating “interstate” in Victoria (VK3).
I was running the ubiquitous FT-817 (5W) into a dipole with the apex at about 5m above ground, hanging in a convenient tree.
I also worked Mike 2E0YYY/P on SSB, and though he really struggled to hear me we finally made it.
I would have stayed a little longer but the sun was going down and it was getting chilly, so I went QRT at about 0700Z. Must try a little later another day as 14MHz was only just beginning to open to Europe by then.

Ron/Bernard,
It was great to hear you both, many thanks for the QSO’s. I’ll look out for you in the future.

Heading out for another EU-VK go tomorrow as it’s ANZAC day in Australia. A public holiday when VK stations are allowed to change their prefix to AX (one of only 3 days in the year when this is allowed).
I’m starting a little later this time, starting at 0700 UTC - will probably be operational for about 2 hours.
I’ll be on DL/AL-169 Auerberg about 100 Km SW of Munich. (2 points).
So please look out for DD5LP/P on 20m SSB. I will self-spot.
If I find that conditions are not good enough for DX contacts on 20m or my new time is simply too late, I’ll switch to 40m to work some “local” European stations.
Looking forward to working whoever is there!
