I will be activating Mt Macedon (VK3/VC-007) on Sunday 26 January, and looking for EU S2S and DX contacts. I will have antennas for 40, 20, 17, 15 and 12 metres, and will probably spend most time on 20m. I will also take my CW key, but I may have to ask you to QRS(SSSS)
I will also be using the special prefix AX to celebrate Australia Day, so hopefully this adds a further attraction to wake early and work me
The EU chasers are more aware of VK activations, you should be fine.
If I can make a couple of recommendations, be very patient and keep calling CQ SOTA, don’t give up early. Use a slightly slower SSB operating technique (it helps with alpha/numeral character recognition) if signal levels are low, and if need be ask the chasers to repeat their callsigns.
10MHz is currently wide open to VK, I had left my radio on 10.121 CW after working someone earlier, & caught John VK6AU calling CQ. Very unusual for me to work VK on 30m.
Still good strength here in Blackburn England at 1417z
In reply to VK3ARR:
Hello Andrew…
It was nice to hear you this morning. Some QSB but good signal via LP.
So thanks for the SOTA and have fun on the summits.
Thanks to you, too, Tom, and to all I worked DX. I had a total of 31 contacts, 15 of those on 40m to local VKs, and then on 20m worked G, DJ, OE, VK6 (that’s DX!), EA, OH, HB, DL and ON before the kids got shirty and wanted to leave.
