Hi Andrew. No problem, I have adjusted the cron script to scan once a week.
# This cron job runs the SOTA badges script every Friday at 4pm
0 16 * * 5 /usr/bin/php /usr/arious/website/bin/sota-badges
Cheers

Once a month is probably far too often TBH.
GM/SS-280.
hmmm, im missing DATA chaser badge⌠thats annoying! i did some FT8 chasing at weekendâŚ
Alan
It exists so maybe check your log if the mode is correctly detected on import to sotadata
yea, i know it exists and the log was direct entered. It shows correctly as a DATA QSO (infact 2 on the same day, same summit, on 2 different bands). I did get it awarded a few months ago, but tthe log was in error (it accidentally entered a wrong mode). that log was subsequently deleted and the badge removed its self⌠Im wondering if its a bug in the system as the system is still picking me up as âawardedâ??
Alan
If you click on one of your own badges, two tables appear; the first 25 people to win the badge, and the most recent 25 people to win it, along with the dates when these events occurred.
Knowing how many days elapsed for the last 25 awards, gives an estimate of the rate of awarding each badge. I havenât done them all, but here is a selection:
Badge No. | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
13 | HF Badge | 277.8 | people per 100 days | |
328 | DXCC10 | 89.3 | people per 100 days | |
239 | Data | 65.8 | people per 100 days | |
97 | Activator 100 | 58.1 | people per 100 days | |
100 | Activator 1000 | 49.0 | people per 100 days | |
154 | Activator Uniques 100 | 37.9 | people per 100 days | |
173 | Mtn Explorer Bronze | 29.8 | people per 100 days | |
174 | Mtn Explorer Silver | 11.6 | people per 100 days | |
14 | Microwave | 10.5 | people per 100 days | |
209 | Mtn Explorer VHF Bronze | 9.92 | people per 100 days | |
175 | Mtn Explorer Gold | 8.20 | people per 100 days | |
176 | Mtn Explorer Platinum | 3.23 | people per 100 days | |
210 | Mtn Explorer VHF Silver | 2.01 | people per 100 days | |
211 | Mtn Explorer VHF Gold | 0.76 | people per 100 days | |
212 | Mtn Explorer VHF Platinum | 0.05 | people per 100 days |
There were a few surprises for me.
Ther are 58 people per 100 days accumulating 100 activation points, and it seems most people keep going to get their goat, as 49 people per 100 days are achieving that award.
The lack of awards for Mountain explorer VHF also surprised me.
I wonder what other mysteries about operating preferences are hidden in the Badges?

The badging code isnât triggered by updates to SW3 due to concerns about load, but you can trigger it yourself by editing any upload in SOTAData3 (no change is required just to resubmit)
Ian, the awarding of a badge often does not coincide with the awarding of a certificate in the same category from the SOTA Shop. My microwave certificate from the shop is serial number one, but the achievement date is ten years after the earliest date for the badge, which was earned by two Germans.

I think the reason for this at the higher levels is those who do lots of new associations probably want to ensure they make one contact, so take HF rather than a handheld on the off chance no one responds on 2m simplex (or whatever) and itâs a failed activation.
At the lower levels, compared with the normal non-VHF mountain explorers, itâs probably more to do with relative levels of activity in each band but I havenât done a formal analysis
Dunno whats happened, its appeared on its own! WAHEY!!
