Lift on the 2m Band

Yesterday, the 2m band was in good shape, my only regret was not being on G/SP-004 Shining Tor.

Today, if Hepburn has it right the propagation looks to be exceptional and those amongst you who have beams could have a lot of fun.

I don’t have a 2m Antenna at the home QTH at the moment, but I would be grateful if someone could let me know what the beacons sound like?

They make a sort of bleeping noise Mike.

Whenever I hear that expression, it reminds me of an unforgettable incident in London ca 1973.

I was ascending in a lift to the top of a tower block of flats in Shooters Hill. Rather mischievously, I called with my handheld KP-202 through GB3LO, “G3NYY - Mobile in a lift - calling through”. Quick as a flash, G3IIR responded, “Hey, listen chaps … there’s a lift on!”

Classic!

Ha ha, good stuff Les and Walt, made me chuckle.

However, Mike hasn’t had his questions answered. And I’m not exactly going to either. But 2m was alive last night Mickey. i did the SSB contest from The Cloud G/SP-015 and heard plenty of ON, PA, DL, F and EI stations quite clearly. Sadly, I didn’t work any of 'em… :frowning: (well apart from an F8 who was on CW only).

I did get more GMs and GDs than usual, plus lesser-heard squares like IO70, IO95 and JO00. Not sure if best DX or not yet (probably is) but my best DX was GU6EFB. The only problem with the FB condx was that the entire band was rammed and plenty of interesting distant stations were blocked out from being “workable” by the splatter of more local stuff.
