LDG Z-100 or T1? Or homebrew auto ATU?

In reply to M0GIA:

I have never used the T1 but I have used LDG Z100 on the summits and now use it for portable back at base operations in combination with the IC-706 MkIIg and a Watson power mite PSU. I was very sceptical when I bought the Z100 but I am now very impressed the same goes for the Power Mite. On the summits I use a linked dipole and no tuner. Everyone I know that has the T1 raves about them so they must be good but I think the Z100 is considerably cheaper.

You say “the use of an ATU is almost unavoidable for the amount of bands I wish to cover” and that is true if you wish to work the whole of each band, but for SOTA you can pick a section of the band and have the antenna resonant on the exact frequency you want to work. The number of bands you want just increases the number of links.
