Lairig Ghru - access limited

Following the storms in mid August the footbridge over the Luibeg Burn near Derry Lodge (NO040934) was washed away. This leaves access to the Lairig Ghru via this route difficult.
There is a rather precarious tree some way upstream or another bridge a couple of Km upstream or the option of wading the Burn if it is safe - it is not, at least not yesterday.
The optional route to the southern end of the Lairig Ghru is to go from Linn of Dee via the White Bridge and Chest of Dee, quite a long detour and leaves access to some of the SOTA summits (ES-013 and ES-011 principally) near to Derry Lodge accessible only by circuitous routes.

I remember that route, Barry, I used it once to get to Beinn Bhrotain ES-007, its a very nice walk in its own right. Do you know if there are plans to repair the bridge?

Brian, Braemar MRT have posted that it’s likely that the bridge will be replaced, but not before winter. So probably next year at the earliest then. Still at least there are one or two other hills to have a go at.
