K6ARK Mini Mic for IC705

I built two K6ARK Mini Mics recently.
One for the KX3 which was very simple to make, following Adams’ instructions.
Then I wanted one for my IC705 as well, but that was rather complicated, given that Icom uses a separate pin for the 8V DC, and the PTT is not just grounding a pin, but putting a resistor over the MIC line.

And to make things worse, I wanted to add the “A” button to send the first voice memory, to call “CQ SOTA … etc”. All in the little 3D printed case … but I got it all in !

See the result on my blog, pictures and circuit diagram included:

Nicely done. I built two of these recently. One for my KX2 which works. A second I built for my QMX, which doesn’t. I even went so far as to build another one with all-new components and it still didn’t work so I’m a bit flummoxed.

Love that additional A button you squeezed in, those mics are a tight fit so kudos on packing that all in there.

It’s wired differently, just in case you were unaware. There’s a diagram in the latest QMX manual.

Yep, and I triple checked my (sub-par) solder work and even swapped out to the suggested alternate mic component. Still no dice. Even re-flashed the QMX fw and nothing.

Not sure what I did wrong. Definitely have the right components but the QMX on-board tests won’t pick up the mic.

Maybe a stupid suggestion, but have you set SSB input to mic, not USB? Happened to me, forgetting to switch to mic after using Winlink.

Yep tried all that too. I can only imagine I got two lots of dodgy components, but the chances of that happening are on par with Rushden and Diamonds winning the Champions League.

Well done Luc,thats quite a bit of wiring stuffed into that tiny case.

I’ve got one of those for my Trusdx, works quite well.

Can’t imagine using one for my 705
