With the Shikoku Henro pilgrimage being done, it’s time to enjoy a few more days in lovely Shikoku and do some SOTA. Yesterday (05/19} I hiked up Mt Bizan. There are many ways to tackle this 290m summit and I picked the difficult one, instead of using the cableway.
We started at the Mishima Shrine on the northern side. This starts with a stairway of 125 steps, followed by a steep zig-zag path up to 200m.
From there it’s a short walk to Bizan Park from where you have a nice view over Tokushima-City. There is also a nice geocache hidden up there.
From the park it’s a 3km walk to the summit with a gentle climb. The summit itself has little to sit on.
The sun was rather active again, and the K-index went from 3- to 3+. It took 1 hour to work 12 stations (one S2S), with plenty of QSB and a few 339 reports for me. It became very windy, so it was a good idea to stop and pack away the gear and head back.
We decided to walk back via the path parallel to the cableway. This path was even steeper, so we were glad we didn’t ascend via that one, hi
Thanks for the QSO’s. Today will be my last SOTA-activation in Shikoku JA5, but not my last activity. Ig all goes well, I will have some guest-op time at 8K3EXPO.
