Today was a fairly easy activation of Mt Aono We rented an e-bike again from the rental across Marugame trainstation, and visited the temples first (part of the Shikoku Henro).

The summit is easy to ride all the way to the top with a bicycle. Per car it’s just a short walk.

The K-index was 2.5, lower than yesterday. 20m didn’t play nice, but 30m and 40m were fine. 1 S2S in the pocket (same station on 40 & 30). And 3 DX to DS/HL. All up 33 CW QSO’s making me s happy bunny again.

There is a viewpoint with an awesome view on Marugame and the Seto Ohashi bridge, which connects Honshu and Shikoku.

The way down was a lot faster than up on the bike, but we held the brakes on, because some parts were really too fast for a bike which you don’t know how it handles the tight corners.

Hi Martin,

Have you used 2m/70cm yet, or are you HF only this trip? I wonder if there is much V/UHF activity for visitors doing SOTA?

Hi Simon

I only brought my Elecraft along, so no V/UHF. Looking at the previous activations, most of them were V/UHF. But looking at the times which it took too make just a few QSO’s for these activations, HF is the better option. I think. But then again, 4 is enough for a valid activation.
