hopefully nobody will be prosecuted or excluded based on
“purposefully vague ruling”.
“Think before you post” should have been applied before
starting the thread (threat?).

Gerd, read the first paragraph of the first post again. This item was posted in reply to allegations made to the MT about some activations. These allegations will not be discussed on a public forum.
Hopefully, as a result of this thread there will be no need to “prosecute” or exclude anybody for infringing either “purposefully vague rulings” or specific prohibitions.
I agree completely. Peaks that I would have literally raced up when I was doing mountain marathons are now proving more of a challenge at 60+, especially when my similarly aged XYL is accompanying me.
Even so I do not intend (ever) to drive up to a summit and operate directly from the car. Though I must admit it is tempting at certain summits (e.g. Wendover woods CE-005), where it is possible to park within the activation zone. If there is no physical effort involved in reaching the summit (albeit that is relative to the activator’s physical abilities) it does not seem to me to be the challenge that SOTA was intended to offer.
However as SOTA is not competetive, it is all about individuals meeting their own challenges and we all choose to do it in different ways. I admire the energy and determination of many activators who operate from inaccessible, technically difficult mountains in all weathers. Equally I realise that not everyone can perform at that level and must activate summits that are within their phyisical abilities. The challenge of activating a summit using low powered radios is quite enough for some people whereas others choose to activate all the nearby SOTAs when traversing a long distance footpath.(whew!)
My next challenge is to find some XYL compatible summits within range of where we are staying near Crewe and one for the journey up on pre-Bank Holiday Saturday!
Mike, you’ll find Mario DC7CCC’s site ( http://www.adventureradio.de ) tremendously useful for identifying where summits are in relation to towns and cities etc.
The map for G/SP shows The Gun and The Cloud being close to Crewe. Both summits are easy ascents. They have the advantage of a large population in easy VHF range aswell. In addition Shining Tor is not much further and is also an easy walk.
I may even meet a famous activator if I go up The Cloud
I’ll try Mario’s site tonight. I did use the find a summit tool to list all those within 75km of where I am staying. I now need to assess the climb etc. so as not to overstress the XYL! She did make it up High Willhays OK so she can manage long climbs but would prefer something easier.
Guys, this thread is descending into irrelevancies (and I’m as guilty as anyone!) so as everything that needs to be said has been said I am now closing it.
