Sadly, that report is rather wishful thinking Steve. THP were canvassing to see if there was demand for a run of a such a device, SSB&CW with 40m to 6m. They were actively seeking input for such a design but no availability was mentioned.
The form factor is wrong. It’s cute to think of a handy and HF but there’s this issue with the antenna. A 40m rubber duck… that’s going to be one hell of a strong BNC connector.
There’ll be people who’ll punt because it’s novel. But if it isn’t cheap then they’ve got their work cut out selling many as the market place is crowded. THP stuff is nicely screwed together and their support is good though.

Hi Andy,
I quite agree with you… just a fishing exercise but hey nice thought… I guess manufacturers are catching onto the fact that there could acctually be a demand for small portable devices… It’s all them mountain sorts you know… =0) and yes it would be some rubber duck.
Steve.

What I forgot to say Steve was that at the right price I’d have to buy one though.
I had a Mizuho MX14S, the handheld 2W 14MHz SSB/CW transceiver. I found it at Blackpool and it was mint with a big bag of accessories. I bought it to use on SOTA but I couldn’t bring myself to take out and scratch or get it dirty. It really didn’t appear to have been used at all. It sat here for 3 years till I sold it on eBay for twice what it cost me. It went to a collector of Mizuho gear so at least it would be cared for.

That is one really nice little rig, Andy, a mate of mine has one!

PS Rubber ducks, yet! I think you would get more joy out of a Moonraker SPX-100 multiband whip!
