Thanks for chasing me today Phil.
It was my very first spot in cw on 30m, so far I’ve only dared to do 80m.
It took me a while to recognize your call with the prefix F/. Then the joy was even greater. Of course also many thanks for the calls and the patience of the others.

Hello Chris and Armin

Well maybe I will give you another one or two fresh summits on Sat/Sun/Mon Armin if we are lucky with timing whether you are home or on the mountains. I think the ones I will get are probably already cleared by Roger F5LKW. I am looking at these as likely summits to visit:

FL/NO-082 X ACTIVATED 24/09/22
FL/NO-035 X ACTIVATED 24/09/22
FL/NO-074 X ACTIVATED 24/09/22

FL/NO-062
FL/NO-031
FL/NO-030

FL/NO-037
FL/NO-137

Thanks to Roger for some advance photos and details. I will be staying away from FL/NO-038…

One or two on my list may be omitted due to weather or the patience of my XYL and if I can get up early morning on Sunday and go solo for one or two summits when we stay at Alencon and I activate before breakfast. We are staying two nights in a manor house there B&B at Conde-sur-Sarthe, Alencon, and then the last night, Monday at the same B&B we used on the way to Brittany near Boulogne.

I only plan to operate for 20 minutes or so on each summit, so I will operate on one or two bands on both modes. 40m is first choice and if time left 20m or 30m.

Chris - I have now dismantled my 100 watt station in the Gite. I got 15 QSOs today, as we stayed in until the afternoon. Pleased to get you in the log on DM/NS-107, it was my pleasure. Last QSO when we got back was with Hans DL/PA3FYG/P who is on the move again in the DM/BM. Thank you Hans.

Hi Phil,

Thanx for the S2S from FL/NO-035, Mont Rochard, today. Successful first activation of I/CL-011, but you were the only S2S contact.

Might be out again tomorrow.

Ciao

Hi Colwyn

Good to know that the summit you were on was a unique. The I/CL area didn’t ring a bell with me from a chaser point of view so when I saw you were spotted there I went looking for you! Glad we had the condx to support a QSO and chasers stood by for us to make a contact.

We managed to dodge the showers yesterday on our drive from Brittany to Alencon when we stopped off for our three activations. I guess it was about 200 miles driving all told. The same sort of distance tomorrow up to Boulogne and then the Eurotunnel on Tuesday. I think the rain may have been more persistent in Le Havre where Roger F5LKW is now based as I never heard him calling me. I concentrated mainly on 40m CW/SSB and 20m SSB and made plenty of contacts.

Today near Alencon we have three summits within 10 miles of the town. I will try and get them all activated if the weather allows. Showers are forecast throughout the day.

Hi Phil
I prepared my backpack, ready to go to Le HAVRE hills but weather was raining.
Then instead of radio I went to my work office.
Next time with Armin, I will get my complete

We had a good day today activating the three summits closest to Alencon, and a good people watching session pub lunch outside in the sunshine on the way round in the village of Saint-Ceneri-le-Gerie. I just about dodged the showers on the last one FL/NO-031 and packed up sharpish as the gear was getting wet at 1411z. Last QSO with M6YLY, Foundation licencee.

The only walker today was FL/NO-062, 1.1 miles each way, my track is uploaded to the SMP. FL/NO-030 and FL/NO-031 were both drive on summits.

Tomorrow I have two more final FL/NO summits on the drive back to Boulogne. See the alerts, time approx on the last. The first FL/NO-037 is close to our departure place near Alencon.

No dramatic photos of todays summits, this is the best I could do:

An old man walking down a street in one of the cities of Normandy asks a young man he meets: do you not know how long it has been raining? The young one replies: I don’t know, I’m only 18 years old …

My Northern France tour is now finished guys. We did go on the plateau that is FL/NO-137 to eat Baguettes and watch the rain falling. It was too wet to take the radio out of the rucksack…

Earlier on FL/NO-037 it was fine and dry. I made 33 quick QSOs on the 40m band.

All told there were 17 activations on this holiday trip.
Lowest number of QSOs on any one summit was 28, and on two summits the highest QSO total was 56 QSOs. All told I made just over 650 QSOs. The loudest signals on 40m (my main band) were from UK and Belgium where the skip distance was just right for Brittany. Not so much DX worked, just a few VE and USA stations. Radio Elecraft KX3, 10 watts to linked inverted vee dipole at 5m AGL. Great to meet Roger F5LKW on FL/NO-064, what a surprise!

Pics:

Today operating from a picnic table on FL/NO-037.
Very nice surprise gift from our Boulogne B&B Proprieteur when we returned there this afternoon:

73 and thanks to the chasers and activators for ensuring the enjoyment of operating in Northern France.

A great trip and many thanks for the reports. I’m also in France but SOTA has taken second place to the holiday but I hope to activate a summit tomorrow - just too late for a S2S with you.
