Oh, yes… I remember being the first ham contact for someone who had just passed his Morse test at 5 wpm. Had the rig sitting up on a rock, and discovered I was sitting on an ant nest, while trying to send very slowly. My QTH was “Salmon Trinity Alps Primitive Area”, and I don’t know if he ever copied the whole thing, as I had repeat it several times as I kept shaking the ants off my fingers.
Thanks Ian. Some great baseball played tonight. My parents took me to Dodger Stadium when it was brand new - it was a Mets game. I still feel like an awestruck 7 year old every time I walk into that beautiful park. The Jays were formidable adversaries.
OT: One of the best World Series in an age. What a climax, both teams battling to the very end. Unbelievable stuff!
Sure Brooklyn (
) may have spent $1.5bn on 3 players (and we scoff at FFP rules here in Europe) - $715m of that on one player, that said he’s a once in a lifetime 2 way phenom; and the Mets can’t complain as we spent over $800m on Juan Soto and finished 13 GB! - but Toronto made them work for every cent of it. Amazing stuff!
Sad for Toronto, their wait goes on and the vultures will circle now at the hot stove and pull that team apart e.g. Vlad Jr, Bichette etc. Well played though, I’d never have put them as finalists back at Spring Training.
Another season done. Now the long wait for February begins. I suppose we have the Arizona Fall League to tide us over until then.
The wait for the team that rose from the ashes of Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants exits goes on.
40 years in 2026. Maybe next season the wheels won’t fall off after the All Star Game in July…and like the 39 times before too.
Who am I kidding!? We’re the Mets! ![]()
Congratulations and 73.

I confirm
I seem to naturally adopt a kneeling position, however I’ve had to force myself to move periodically now since after a few minutes of kneeling I find I can’t stand up until feeling comes back.
When in a run of qso’s this can be a problem
and probably quite funny to watch.
I call that self-abuse - treat yourself to a quality portable chair. Your health is surely worth it.
When an old prolapsed-disc injury came back to haunt me, my portable chair was the only thing I could sit on / in at home.
