I/SP9BIJ/P - I/LG-007 in memory of IZ1BSO - SK

Dear SOTA community, during my short “workation” (I think it is how we call it now - working from a vacation place) in my native Ligurian Coast (Italy), I have received the sad news of the sudden passing away of an old friend, Maurizio IZ1BSO.
Maurizio wasn’t neither a SOTA activator nor a regular chaser, but he gave me many useful advices along the years as his knowledge had no boundaries. He was a great lover of the VHF and UHF bands where he was very active with the local contest team, he had also a great musical taste.
We had dreamt of building two “monster” VHF antennas; I was supposed to climb some high peak in the Tatra mountains and he was supposed to reach the highest altitude he could in our Ligurian mountains, intending to realize some historic S2S (either “official” or unofficial) between us in VHF SSB. We both knew that it would be very hard if not impossible at all, but we also knew that the preparation and the tentative themself would have been fun regardless of the outcome. I regret we couldn’t make it.
Tomorrow I will “dedicate” (no special call, just few words in my spots) my second and last activation on I/LG-007 before my return to SP land, just to carry his memory up in the mountains where we can see the Ligurian see and coast he had always deeply loved.
Condolences to the family.

Merci Gérard, c’était le moins qu’on puisse faire…un petit geste, rien d’ exceptionnel.
