Do you have a hosepipe ban yet?
Meanwhile in South Australia (VK5) 50 C
Elsewhere for the lower south east of Australia the BOM is forecasting a cool change for Sunday which will produce severe thunderstorms. The risk of lightning strikes creating new bush fires is ongoing.
If you mean water restrictions? Water restrictions are managed at a State and local council level. Water restrictions may occur after long periods of minimal to zero rain fall across water catchments. Aussies are well educated in the art of water conservation. ![]()
The joke here is that after two weeks of sunshine there’ll be a hosepipe ban (you can’t use a hosepipe for non-essential things like watering the garden or cleaning your car). Last year we had a hot and dry summer (by our standards, anyway) and many parts of the country had a hosepipe ban. Here in Yorkshire the ban wasn’t lifted until 10 December.
The highest temperature last year in the UK was 35.8C and the all-time record is 40.3C in 2022.
I brew beer. One of the steps is to cool the wort after boiling it before adding the yeast. The usual technique is to use some form of chiller that uses a lot of tap water. The Australians introduced the technique of no-chill cubes where you store the hot wort in a food-grade HDPE container and let it cool naturally. I use this technique and it works well.
Warning
this thread is now at a risk of being hijacked on the subject of homebrew beer
