Yesterday 01/11/2017 Michel F4HPV and Thierry F4EGG made a S2S Qso
from F/AM-213 (2745m) and F/AM-078 (3063m) = witch is a total of 5813m.
I just wonder if there is a higher S2S known!

That’s an interesting idea… I’ll have a look tonight.
I think there will be many in the USA with big totals. I quickly found this looking at KX0R’s s2s log:
29/Aug/2017 17:24 KX0R W1EJ W6/CN-007 Mount Harkness W0C/FR-007 Rosalie Peak 10MHz CW
Total of 6590m or 21,621 ft.
(update)
I just found this going back a few years:
02/Aug/2014 19:29 KX0R N5XL W0C/FR-003 Mount Evans W0C/SR-029 Parry Peak 14MHz CW
Total of 8430m or 27,657 ft. Now that’s getting up there mountain goats!

There are many 14,000 ft peaks in Colorado in close proximity. I would bet that the record is probably well over 28,000 ft.
To K7EEX’s point…Check out the s2s results for our annual Colorado 14er event. I haven’t looked for the total height record but I can at say I worked a station on Capitol Peak from La Plata Peak in this years event for a total height of 28,466 ft (~8676.4m).

To open this up to the low-landers and high-landers alike, perhaps the “Highest S2S” honors should depend on the total vertical gain the activators actually hiked up
73, Barry N1EU
Hi Barry…ok, I’ll play. The total vertical gain hiking from the trail head to summit for La Plata is 4500 ft. The total gain for Capitol is 5300 ft. These aren’t drive-up peaks ;-). So, that total is 9800 ft (~2987m). Still a pretty good number!

That is awesome Brad! Very well done indeed, that’s some serious hiking!

Thanks Barry. Not to hijack this thread but just a quick side note…
Five climbers fell and died this year on Capitol Peak. It’s a dangerous class 4 peak! I was very impressed that a SOTA activator did this peak for our 14er event (K0FPX). I would give him 20 pts for his effort!!

My personal record is 4853m: EA8/TF-001 + EA2/NV-070 (6th April 2015).

Thanks for posting the results Andy. It’s fitting that K0NR has the record as he started the 14er event years ago!!

So clearly, there have been many S2S QSOs between Colorado 14ers. It seems that Mount Antero W0C/SR-003 to Mount Elbert W0C/SR-001 is the highest total recorded.
Within Colorado, there are several other pairs that would result in a larger number. The max possible in the state is between the two highest summits: Mt Elbert and Mt Massive W0C/SR-058.These are very close together so you could probably make the contact on any band using dummy loads as antennas.
The other opportunity within the continental USA (48 states) is an S2S with Mt Whitney (highest in the lower 48).
Then there’s Alaska…

Work is progressing slowly on adding a few South American countries to add a few more massive summits into the mix.
I can’t understand why you guys think you have to add the heights, when logically you take the mean between the two heights. The numbers might seem less impressive but they are more real - nobody climbed both summits!
Nobody climbed half of each summit either Brian. The mean is equally meaningless.
Of course they did, Tom, then they went on to climb the other half!
For some reason this makes me think of Zeno’s Paradox - which would make actually reaching the summit impossible…
People like to see bigger numbers Brian.
Then multiply the two heights!
