Apologies for the poor show on HF from Brown Willy G/DC-002 today. I started on 60m as usual, but noticed immediately that the antenna was not matching properly. Initially I assumed that owing to the lie of the land and the high winds, the dipole end points were too close to the ground. But as I moved up through the bands, it became clear that the problem was more serious than that. My antenna, it seemed, was broken, though visual inspection did not reveal the problem.
Back at our holiday cottage, I found a broken wire near the feed point held together only by the insulation. I only had half a dipole
I hope I did not waste too many people’s time. I did hear EA2DT call me once on 20m but I assume it was a speculative call based on the spot. Thanks for trying Manuel.
I have managed a repair of sorts back at the cottage but I will probably use my backup antenna for the rest of this holiday.
Fortunately I was able to share enough of Caroline’s 2m contacts to qualify the hill.
