Heath Mynd G/WB-007 parking

Now I have the correct summit….Is the parking for this hill still parking on the triangle of grass?

Indeed the triangle has enough space for one or maybe two cars at a push.

On a weekday in March I doubt you’ll have much competition.

Some have also parked a bit further down towards the farm, but I think you have to block one of the tracks so not ideal:

This is the initial triangle I was looking at (the one you referenced 2nd in your post)

Not a lot of room on this triangle

I parked on the first one in my post.

Edit, if you go back in time on Google maps you can see a bin lorry to the left of the parking spot on the triangle. In winter the advantage is that the grass is short and you’ll be able to see what’s under your wheels. In summer not so easy.

I remember really faffing around with parking for this one! I think I found this second option, but wasn’t quite sure about it. I seem to remember there was a bit of farm traffic around and couldn’t convince myself that I wasn’t going to be blocking their access.

After a bit of driving around and struggling to find some suitable I decided to leave my car in front of the closed gate here: Google Maps on the basis that I wasn’t blocking the main track.

Parking aside, it’s a really lovely summit and well worth a visit.

Absolutely Matthew, fab little summit with a prebuilt wind shelter to hunker down in!

Thanks Matthew. I am always cautious of blocking paths/gates etc when parking up on these types of lanes/parking areas.

I tend to trust the people who previously uploaded a route including the start/parking. I do check google maps to make myself familiar with the surrounding area and possible alternatives but make a decision where I eventually park depending what I’m presented with. What is fine in summer, may be less suitable in winter as some on here found out…

I also trust the routes uploaded but like to check when you get parking for hills like this that the parking is still the same. Some routes are a few years old now.

I’ve started parking in the layby on the main road and walking from there. The road to the triangle isn’t in the best condition, on two occasions there has been someone else parked at the triangle leaving nowhere to park (and difficult to turn around), and another occasion I parked up and as I got out the car started to slide on the gravel

Walking up the main road isn’t easy because there’s no verge in places and limited visibility. There are public footpaths shown on the OS map over Disgwylfa Hill the to the triangle but they are blocked/overgrown around SO324935 so I haven’t uploaded a route for this.

Hi Pete, I’ve been looking on Google Earth etc but I can’t find the above mentioned lay by, I assume on the A488.
Could you give a reference, What 3 Words spot etc for it, please?
Cheers, John

John, it’s here:

You can just about make out the faint path heading up the hill on Streetview. The public footpath goes through the trees but unless it’s been cleared in recent months once the trees end it’s chest high bracken and brambles.

If you manage to fight through that, you need to go over the hill and follow the footpath down to Heath Mynd Farm - on the map it looks like you can cut through The Hollies to the road but you can’t.

Pete

The last time I was there the road onward past the farm was very boggy, but the farmer appeared and was quite happy for me to park in his yard

Rick

Thanks for that, Pete. I found the lay-by, but the path from there looks unclear, on Streetview anyway. I won’t be going there anytime soon, but I’ll keep it in mind for the future.
