On the way to a weekend of motorsport for Race of Remembrance https://www.raceofremembrance.com/
I stopped off at GW/NW-076 and GW/NW-070 and activated the hills on 10m.
GW/NW-076 - Mynydd y Cwm
Parked in the normal space, the wide parking area with the gate and stile.
Greeted by these chappies from the field opposite.
A quick change of footwear and off up the hill.
Got the mast up and leaned it into the trees, pegged out the guy ropes and radial elements (pre-attached to the guy ropes). Spotted on Sotawatch, and called CQ
7 contacts on 10m that I could log. I did make contact with a European station but I could not work out his call sign. Sounded like it ended CCA or CGA but no matter how many times I tried to understand it and he repeated it, I could not work it out. Not sure I can log an unknown call sign as a valid contact?
Finished up with the 7 contacts and had a spin through the bands and heard a VK station calling CQ which I answered. First Australian contact and first Australian contact from a hill. Again not sure if this classes as a SOTA contact as I answered his CQ CQ call?
Packed up and headed back to the car and off to activate GW/NW-070.
Parked up at the Great Orme and paid £5.50 to park.
I got setup, spotted and called CQ. SWR meter on the FT857 was going high.
Ahhh I had not connected the coax…
Try again…Still SWR was high - but this time the coax had got wrapped around the radial. Solved this and onwards.
14 in the log. America again and Canada for the first time.
Packed up and off to RoR for a weekend of motorsport helping out doing recovery.
Course safety car
On Sunday we did the service from the pit lane
Cheers
