It’s been a few months since I had a big SOTA day out, and Feb 19 since I last did a multi-summit North Wales trip. Tuesday 21 July reset that. 3 summits involving 12 horizontal miles, over one vertical, plus 30 QSOs.
First up, Carnedd Llewelyn (GW/NW-002, 1064m). Upon arrival I met Dave GW8NZN who was just finishing up - always nice to meet fellow activators on the summit! After quickly setting up (doesn’t take long with my lightweight gear - an Alinco HH with halfwave telescopic) I worked my way through 9 contacts on 2m FM before moving on.
Next summit is a couple of hours along the ridge, Pen Llithrig y Wrach (GW/NW-013, 799m). A lovely quiet hill with great views, although the midges found me and seemed to be hungry. 16 contacts followed, and then a trek back to the car.
After a short drive, we set off for the third and last summit, Moel Siabod (GW/NW-010, 872m). This last one was quite an effort as I’m not exactly in peak condition due not having been out in a while. Nonetheless the top was eventually reached and 5 contacts made. Got back to the car a little after sunset and then a quick 2.5 hours back to base.
Thank you to all those that called in - as always, much appreciated!
