GB6MYG....a special evening activation

Thanks to you all for the activations. I couldn’t match my long wire too well, so just ran lowish power to get the summits in the log. Not often I get to chase UK summits after dark. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Allan @GW4VPX, thank you so much for your fantastic report, it really captured what a special evening it was. It was a real pleasure to share the activation with you, Kevin, and of course little Lyra on her first night-time summit. I enjoyed every minute of it, despite the 6.5‑hour round‑trip in the old 90… with Lyra fast asleep and snoring next to me on the way home!

It was lovely to complete Wales again, and the 3×MG was a very welcome bonus on such a memorable outing. Huge thanks to Kevin for having the full setup ready when we arrived - even the 80 metres of wire in the sky held up beautifully by the 10m pole. Val’s sausage rolls were an absolute treat for both me and Lyra, and the Welsh cakes and tea Kevin provided washed everything down perfectly.

A massive thank you as well to all the chasers who worked us, and especially the S2S stations @G4AZS Adrian, @M1BUU Colin, @GW4MAT Matt & @MW0KEC Edd, who went up a hill themselves to make the evening extra special. It was brilliant to share in the milestones together and experience such a strong run on Top Band.

All in all, a fantastic evening, great company, great radio, and great memories.

Thank you very much, everyone!

Operating on Top Band is ridiculous! But, that’s why we do it! I think it’s very lucky that the longer wavelength bands are more useful at night, as I don’t feel so bad stretching out a huge antenna across the summit, when only strange people are about!

It was all good fun and the weather was much, much nicer than last time.

Well done all!! And many congrats to Ben on the third Goat. I would have tried to join in (probably from home QTH) but we had arranged to eat with a friend so I will have to wait for the next one.

Have already chased it so we will get there soon to complete GW for the third time.

A fantastic write-up with great pictures documenting the evening activation, Allan @GW4VPX. The engagement from so many fellow activators and chasers made it truly special — with some even lashing up a temporary random wire antenna across their gardens just to get on 160m and make contact.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to join in on the night myself; 160m is beyond my current reach and I’m just a little too far away for a 2m FM contact. Even so, it was a pleasure following the action unfold across various locations via the socials, and it’s clear the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who took part.

Congratulations to you and Ben for achieving GW SOTA-Complete once again — and a special well done to Ben @GW4BML for earning his 3rd Mountain Goat in the process. :goat::goat::goat:

At the rate she’s going, Lyra could well be a Mountain Goat herself by the age of 12!

Thanks to everyone involved for a thoroughly enjoyable evening — even if only as a spectator this time!
