I would recommend not activating anywhere near the memorial these days. Since storm Arwen the “No Bikes” sign has gone and the summit seems to be a magnet for mountain bikers.
They tend to congregate next to the summit. The first photo on this thread shows me operating about 30 yards East (just off the path). You can get a 66’ doublet up OK there. After the trees were cleared by the forestry workers I moved a bit further East into the open. Much better for activating and still within the activating zone, but watch your step amongst the timber.

Thanks Roger. The last time I was there I had two bikers buzzing around and were no bother. I was sat away from the up/down track the bikes use. Thanks for the tip.
I have found a few bits of timber that get in way…

The scadacore site is the one I used.
We could do with one that does it for summit references, or between Maidenhead locators.
