If you are activating SOTA tomorrow in CW or DATA between 0600 UTC and 1200 UTC and you are called by callsign GB22GE it will be Phil @G4OBK on the keys. GB22GE is one of the seven GB22 special callsigns issued, one to each devolved nation of Great Britain. In addition GB22HQ will commence activity on July 28th from the NEC Commonwealth Games HQ in Birmingham.
The special event callsign celebrates The Commonwealth Games being held in the UK this time. I will be calling CQ around 22 KHz up from the band edges on CW on 40m through 10m depending on propagation, FT8/FT4 on the usual frequencies and RTTY / PSK31 if I can find some activity.

It was me you worked Eric, yes. I was looking for SOTA DATA specialist Andreas @HB9HCI/P on 40m after he was spotted but I had no reception on 40m. I saw you work Andreas and as a SOTA buddy thought I would get you into my log, so I called you, thanks for coming back!
I made 170 QSOs using GB20GE throughout the morning, of which six were with SOTA CW activators. Pity I missed working Andreas on the “ghostly choir” mode (FT8). Despite Andreas responding to me I could not get my JTDX software to send him a report, only our callsigns, I stopped trying after a few attempts as I was wasting his time. Couldn’t understand why no report was going out as I worked many stations this morning and they all got an automatic SNR report as part of the usual exchange.
I will be using GB22GE again several times over the next month.
Hi Phil
You tried to reach me the last days? I am since 7th of July on holidays in the Baltic see (and of course no SOTA ) I will be back in mid of August and btw. I am only QRV on 20 m (14.08 MHz mostly FT4).
73 Andreas HB9HCI
My apologies for my confusion Andreas… I had a serious attack of “senior moment”. I should have said Bruno @F6HHK/P and not you. I hope you are having a good holiday up north.
If I call any activators today on CW up until 1200 UTC today it will be G4OBK on the key as GB22GE, the RSGB Commonwealth Games Special call for England.
TNX Tom @MW1EYP on GW/SW-009 for my first SOTA QSO today.
Great to work you on both my early-bird activations today.
Set your alarm for the next two days. No guarantees of course, but currently it’s my intention to be up with the larks again. A boozy Nepalese curry tonight may cause good intentions to be disrupted however…
It didn’t. The curry house was unexpectedly closed, and we had to drive to Brecon to get an evening meal. That wasn’t the end of the world though as we had an excellent Italian there, plus with driving, I wasn’t having a boozy night after all, and I was up at 5am for SOTA this morning.
No sign of G4OBK / GB22GE though while I activated GW/SW-013.
No Tom, I was a bit late into the shack this morning after breakfast, my fault I missed you. Condx have gone down on 20m compared to yesterday. Enjoy your tour.
Thanks Phil for the QSO in the morning, it’s always a pleasure to listen to you from a summit, and today with the surprise of not knowing it was you.
EA4DON, Alex
My last SSB Session is tomorrow , Thursday 11th between 1200 & 1800 UTC!
in my last 3 sessions I have kept an eye on Sotawatch, but never heard anybody from the spotted frequency? on 40 or 20m
But I have had fun, especially yesterday controlling a small but heavy Pile up on 40m, conditions have been up and down daily but I am glad I volunteered for a couple of the daytime sessions.
Will of course be trying to get at least one summit activation in my log as it’s my last session tomorrow!
