G/SP-004 Shining Tor - 27/01/18

As I was visiting my parents in Knutsford, I decided to take in Shining Tor on the way home as the forecast was for the rain to stop. I parked at the trackway entrance between the Peak View tea rooms and the Cat and Fiddle Inn. Visibility down to 50m but no problem following the wide track and signposts to the summit. Since my last visit, a gritstone pavement has been laid so one can now sit on the bench to operate with feet on firm ground instead of a deep pool of water. The signpost makes a good mast support and the wall provides complete shelter from the wind. At least the wind and poor visibility meant that few other people were out walking. Called CQ at 1442 on 2m-fm and M1AUN came straight back. 2m take-off did not disappoint and a string of 11 more contacts followed, including 2E0LBI/M walking on Loughrigg Common in Cumbria: 51 and lovely audio. Packed up at 1501, leaving plenty of daylight for the descent.
