After Emil’s (DL8JJ) sota marathon this spring there were not many summits left unactivated in DM. Being a first time activator looked like a nice goal to me. So I decided to head to DM/NS.
As many good trips this one starts with a barbecue. Our local radio club had the anual summer meet and eat. After some good food and a lot of good talks I enter the car and head north. At about 1:30 local time I reach the parking area and decide to sleep beneath the stars.
At about 6:00 I get up. I want to try my luck on VK-contacts and still need to walk to the summit and set up the station. The summit is covered with wood. I find a place within the activation zone and set up my antenna and start calling cq. There are not many people hearable on the bands at this time of day. I can hear some VKs on 20m, but obviously they can’t hear me. Maybe I need more than the 10Watts my KX3 delivers. Or I should put more effort in learning CW. After a self spot on 40 meters, I manage to activate the summit with european stations. As soon as the band becomes quiet, I pack my stuff and head back to the car.
After a little driving I find myself on ascent to the next summit…
I will not bore you with the repetition of the same things over and over.
In the summary I managed 5 first time activations. I would like to say “thank you” to all the chaser who made this possible. I especally enjoyed the 6 summit to summit QSOs on this trip.
At about 22:00 I arrived at home, tired but happy.
Now there is only one unactivated sumit left in DM. It seems, this summit is hard to access as it is on military property. I don’t think I will try to activate it.
