Activated W7N/CK-033 with 17 contacts. Used a vertical whip, Xiegu 6100, FT8TW app on my phone.
Turned the audio volume almost to zero and enjoyed the scene. Sipped a bit of celebration bourbon. Was a great day. I am thinking I should get an older phone to use exclusively for ft8 app. Coming down from the summit my phone was at 11%. I used my Anker battery backup.
My only issue now is trying to export my qrz log, parse my Jan 23 info, add the fields, convert and then upload to sotadata. So far it seems to be quite a challenge.
You may be surprised at how quickly you can enter your log on the updated website Sotadata3 . The upload activation section of the upload logs tab is really easy to use and allows edits and corrections once uploaded. It’s always nice to parse existing data but manual entry is pretty slick.
Good luck with your next activation, as Gerald has commented, it can quickly become addictive.
I ended up manually entering the contacts. I wasn’t difficult. I did make a few mistakes with callsigns that I had to go back and correct. importing the logs would be so much easier.
Everyone has their own flow for logging. I have been programming for a living since 1983 so I can “sort of almost touch type”. But I don’t like logging activations live on a phone/tablet or computer, I still write on paper. I do this as I want to concentrate on the audio not trying to read a screen and I make notes on the log as I attempt to decipher bits of CW. Once back home I type the paper logs up as FLE format then submit that FLE format file straight into the database. This means the minimum of typing after the event. That’s straight from FLE text file to logged in the DB. I don’t have the FLE program installed but if I did I could use that to take my FLE text file and output an ADIF for uploading into the DB and for inclusion in any of the major logging programs.
I’ve been logging into SOTA DB since 2006, 20 years this year, and this is the simplest and fastest for me and offers the most flexibility for SOTA and for other logging progs. YMMV
