This summit is my first activation outside outside the UK*
I was going to activate El Ejido which is further along the same ridge which has only been activated once and I was told by someone on here that it was “fenced off”. However zoom on the picture below and there’s a clear well used path up to and over the tops.
Almenara has an impressive top of grainier and the summit needs a little scrambling to reach. Following the recent fires it’s also rather sooty . The upside was there wasn’t much scrub to avoid.

(below)at 1225m it’s a decent walk and around 30c . A t shirt is all you need in summer and A hat, shorts, and lots of water.
Once I got myself an office amongst the dust and soot I posted a spot and quickly got 4 QSOs in 5 minutes, 3 of which were S2S .
The hardest bit of operating was trying to remember putting EA4/ as a prefix, even though I’d written my full call on my log book.
I wonder if others do this when operating outside their own country? 
After an hour I packed up and set off down a gully on the east side p, picking up various dirt tracks and paths as I was walking back to my daughter’s house which was about 12k away. I’d run out of water - I took over a litre but managed to top up at a village “spring’
