Sad news. Rooster and Peanuts were often mentioned at SOTA meetings in VK.

Peanuts will be lonely so a friend is required asap to help share the burdens of life and SOTA.

I agree that a new friend is needed, Ron. Maybe a young black and white goat named Rooster II, with the nickname “junior”.

Odd thing…on October 12th, I was talking with Steve about the health of R & P, knowing their normal lifespan. I certainly didn’t foresee this, though, only three weeks later.

RIP, old dude

Condolences to Steve and Peanut. At least Rooster’s memory lives on via YouTube.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Rooster,it was the YouTubes of Peanut and Rooster that first drew my attention to SOTA. I had never heard of SOTA before then, when i saw Steve and the goats on a hike to Mount Herman. We had a great time watching the goats eating the local bushes and rock climbing while Steve was busy activating. I loved the YouTube when Rooster ate Steves log sheet.
Condolences to Steve and Family and Peanut

Known all over the world.

RIP Rooster

ODE To Rooster

He was a SOTA Goat
And nicknamed QRO
He was a SOTA Goat
And never made a QSO

Many Summits he climbed
Under skies so blue
He and his pal Peanut
Oh and he brought Steve along too

He was loyal and strong
As he carried the load
Some extra stuff there
For another band or mode

He was good in all weathers
Whether rain or shine
He was there for his buddies
Each and every time

He was a SOTA Goat
Of that there is no doubt
A loyal servant to the cause
No matter how tough the route

He was a star to many
As many have seen
His exploits and travails
On the silver screen

But now he’s gone
What a legacy to leave
SOTA trips won’t be the same
With just Peanut and Steve

So long to you Rooster
As you’ve climbed the last trail
You won’t be forgotten
There are many stories of you to tell

Shame on you, Richard. Though they may be inquisitive, and like human babies investigate with their mouths, goats are vegitarians, and certainly not cannibals.
In comparason, the more delinquent sheep on some of the G/NP hills are known to try to terrorise walkers into parting with their sandwiches, some of which may contain beef, or even worse, lamb!

With much sympathy from Dave, G6DTN (born under the sign of Capricorn)and his goat-loving XYL, Janis.

In reply to AD5A:

Excellent tribute Mike.

RIP Rooster.

:frowning:

Never thougt I’d care about a goat from the other side of the world passing, but there it is. Rest in peace.

In reply to M0DFA:

They may be vegetarians but they will definately accept a ham sandwich!

Amazing how many people here and on NASOTA have shown themselves to be members of the Peanut and Rooster fan club!

Helen and I were saddened to hear the news of Rooster’s death. We had been following Peanut and Rooster’s adventures (before NA-SOTA) for quite a while on youtube.

We were privileged to have met Rooster and Peanut (and their human) at the beginning of May this year. Two road trips were planned with one starting at Albuquerque heading up to the Four Corners and back to Albuquerque via Santa Fe. A surprise e-mail from Steve asking if we would like to meet the goats meant a big re-jig of the route up to Colorado Springs for a unique opportunity which could not be missed.

We have fond memories of the wonderful day hiking with Rooster. With him being top goat he often just stood in the way or tried to bump us off the trail just to keep us in our place in the herd; being new-comers we were definitely at the bottom. A few pictures are here;

Our sympathies go to Steve and family and Peanut on the loss of their buddy.

I think the bleat of Sotagoat from my phone will always remind me of Steve’s videos and the two goats Rooster and Peanut. Rooster may have QSYd to another place but to many of us I think his voice (or one like it) lives on in the audio band and in iphones the world over.
