Hope you missed the truck fire on the A9 at Dunkeld
There were still traffic lights at the scene when I passed yesterday due to road damage. The burnt smell was still lingering in the area. In fact the A9 from Inverness to Perth had a lot of bits where the smell was a bit much, there were quite a few dead deer at the roadside. On the bike you are exposed to all the smells !
Contrastingly the large patches of Bluebells were very pretty and the Gorse and Broom were a riot of yellow and smelt of coconut, a welcome relief from the deer.

My last day was a trip to Ben Hope GM/NS-020 .
This being the most northerly Munro, sees a lot of visitors. The path starts at 11m asl and rises to the summit at 927m in 3.7km, so fairly steep!
The weather made up for the previous days, with sunshine and a light breeze.
The (radio) sky was much less broken than previous days with some decent contacts on 2m - I could hear the activation on Tinto GM/SS-064 some 320km to the south but never managed to QSO.
HF ssb was successful however and I did not do any Data from this hill having done so from a couple of others to help activate them.
Ben Loyal en-route to Hope
Loyal again from summit of Hope
Some of the amazing geology on show from the summit of Ben Hope.
Some tracks:
NS-082 Beinn Dhorain, 7.2km return, 449m ascent
NS-137 Cnoc an t-Sabhail (Knock Toul), 10.4km return, 307m ascent
GM/NS-144 Creag a’Ghobhair, 3.68km return, 168m ascent
GM/NS-149 Beinn Akie, 13.46km return 537m ascent (don’t ask why it’s like this!!!)
All maps (C) 2026 Ordnance Survey
The main goal of this was to bag Beinn Akie in Cape Wrath. WX was wild, a few spots of rain but a relentless 35mph wind.
Andy found the site behind some big rocks and it was sheltered. We setup just one antenna, Andy’s dipole for 40/20/17/15/10/6m and shared his 818 for SSB. Then I whipped out the KX2 and did some 15m CW on the 40m setting.
Here you see the (paraphrasing The Great Bard) Three Gentlemen of The Lothians. Myself on the left, ALan MM0VPM centre on the mic, Andy MM7MOX in the background.
