F/AB-358 Montagne de Sous-Dine May 13 2007

Montagne de Sous-Dine 2004 m is one of the hiking classics in Haute Savoie. I added a link for the hiking route to the SOTA database. The weater on the Sunday morning is clear but windy. My extra light weight loop antenna supported by fishing rod and two Leki poles is swinging in the wind. Must give quite some QSB, but let’s try. I start from 30 m, the 40 m sounds full. There is G4SSH working HB9 on Jura, but this time Roy does not hear me. I get reply from DJ4XD at 1004 UTC. I try to make swing amplitude smaller in the antenna. 1031 UTC second chat QSO with DJ2OD. Now the report improves from 519 to 589. Finally I decide to force a few Hertzs on 40 m. After all the activator should call CQ and the chasers listen. HB9AGO 1052 UTC, then Cris GM4FAM, DL4FCK and Ken HB9DOT. Sky is covered with dark clouds and I decide to QRT 1059 UTC.
