Never understood the race for speed, especially when its SOTA and not a competition. Whatever your pace is…that’s the right speed. Accuracy is the only metric.

The RBN usually indicates that I am sending at 18 - 20 wpm and in a howling gale with horizontal driving sleet hitting your face, that’s enough for me. As for using anything other than straight keying, a 40 year habit is hard to break. 
Incidentally, I recently worked a special event station that was running upwards of 35 wpm. I called at my usual speed and received a reply at my speed. To my mind that was some operator.

I like my straight key. Maybe just a case of, "old dog new tricks but, whenever I use iambic, I tend to make more eerlorh
