We are happy at EA2. Iñaki EB2GKK has joined Alberto EA2DCA, Iratxe EA2DNO and Javi EB2FDT as #4 Mountain Goat of the Basque Country reaching his 1000 points on july 13th. But being as he is, he has said nothing about it, so humble he is…
Congratulations Iñaki.
After so many SOTA QSOs on 2m FM I had the pleasure to chase you on 20m SSB a few days ago. I couldn’t copy you from your last activation in EA2/VI but I copied many of the chasers having QSO with you.
I wish you all the best and I’ll keep chasing you and looking forward to receiving your nice qsl pictures by e-mail.

In reply to EA2CW:
Dear Mikel,
We know very well that the Spanish Basque Country is part of the EA2 call area but NOT the whole EA2 call area is just the Spanish Basque Country.
Your post may confuse other people in other countries, as they may not be fully aware that the EA2/TE, EA2/ZG, EA2/HU and EA2/NV zones are in the EA2 call area but are NOT part of the Spanish Basque Country and the Spanish Basque Country SOTA areas are just EA2/BI, EA2/SS and EA2/VI.

Just for those who didn’t have the chance for having a qso with him, as he performed most activation in VHF only, let me remark that he is always trying to maximize the chances of a qso with chasers by staying for a long time on the summits.
It’s frequent to hear him calling for long, rotating his homebrew yagi in all possible directions to catch everybody. He is struggling to log you when he hears your low level signal.
He has been doing multiple summits activation even in cold and winter season, with long trails…
As pointed before, after each Sota activation he’s always sending chasers a nice qsl card with the picture of the activated summit in the background.
He has started doing HF activation receintly as well, experimenting with different aerials.
Iñaki, you are a well deserved Mountain Goat! Hope to meet you in a summit somewhere and share our passion for the mountains and nature.

I am going to start by thanking all of you for the congratulations received by different ways these last days, but I am just doing what I have been doing most of my life… the only difference that now the peaks are counted and I try to get into the backpack my handheld .
I must say that I feel fortunate to have been born in this Basque land, where passion for mountain it is very common and from childhood teach you that there are more sports than football.
I take this opportunity to extend to all chasers my congratulations and to thank them also for their efforts to be sitting long time specially when the activations are delayed. To Know that someone is waiting for you on the other side is pleasant and sometimes also stressful to reach the summit just in time.
So as well as extending congratulations let me also thank especially the EA2 people for submitting this programme to the rest of Hams in the EA, Europe and the whole World… using different disciplines and suffering the worst storms. Sincere congratulations on your excellent work, I will raise a glass of red wine and as activators most say in this north region I will shout loudly… “Egurre SOTAri / Come on SOTA” !!!
