Early morning SOTA on Gummer's How, G/LD-050

Braving the CQ WW SSB contest today with an early-ish start (well not quite up to Mickey’s standards) I was looking at zero degrees centigrade and a 30 knot wind. I spent about 2 hours on the summit, it’s only a low one with a 25 minute walk in. Bands were weird, as was to be expected in contest conditions - 40m was wall to wall SSB, 80m was clear below 3.600, there were some stations on 20m but not enough propagation for any SOTA contacts. I had some good strong signals coming in on 80m from Belgium and I was also strong with UK stations.

It was also fairly quiet on 2m FM although I was only on the handheld so I could only realistically expect contacts to the South. Nice chat with Douggie (a font of information on Yaesu gear as always) and Sue.
Popped in to see my mate James in Stuart Sports in Windermere on the way home to get some thin fleece gloves and new thermal socks! He was doing brisk business in winter apparel as the temperatures have dived for the first in the Lake District.

I only took a few photos, available here.

Thanks for the contact Mark, you were a cracking signal here on 80m, as you know. Pity a few more don’t try this band…
