All mine (M1EYP) and Jimmy M0HGY’s Tenerife activations have been from holidays based in Costa Adeje or Los Cristianos. So most details in the reports on our website http://tomread.co.uk should be relevant, and hopefully useful.
Cheers Tom @M1EYP, I followed many links to your site and really enjoyed what I found there. You’re to be commended for maintaining your own independent little corner of the internet rather than feeding into social media like many other people, nice one mate.
We’re chilling out on our first day in Costa Adeje and I’m having a little snoop around the maps, planning an early start tomorrow. Watch this space.
Well, my first EA8 activation is in the bag, hooray!
I wonder if it’s possible to add GPX files to a sotadata page? I’ve saved the track log and added waypoints for the summit and for parking, might be of use to somebody.
You can add gpx-files on SOTA Mapping. Go to Mapping → tracks → pick the summit and go to “upload tracks”.
If you found a parking spot that would certainly be interesting for others!

Thanks Heinz @OE5EEP but it seems that TF-014 already has a track, and when I uploaded my GPX it didn’t import waypoints, so the parking location was lost anyway. I’ll stick with W3W references for now, e.g. https://what3words.com/steps.lavender.exit for parking @ TF-014.
Let me get the popcorn for the discussion that will start on that
Arrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh!
No offense intended… but quite a few of us on here think W3W is an abomination.
Actually, to be clear. Quoting a reference in writing as you have done is not too bad. The real horror show is people in need of rescue being asked to say three word groups over poor mobile phone calls, resulting in mangled locations and/or endless repeats.
My work insists on using it. Which results in the ludicrous situation of having to spell every word with the phonetic alphabet.
Lovely little spikey summit! My first on Tenerife too.
Late to the party. We had a great time there a couple of years back.
Thanks for sharing that link Fraser @MM0EFI, some excellent info there. We are planning TF-010 Roque del Conde for a dawn activation tomorrow and I’m hopeful of meeting up with Stephan @HB9EAJ for a joint activation of TF-007 Cruz de Gala next weekend. Still not sure about the best way up that latter one though. @OE6FEG notes that the path from the south-west remains viable despite the summit closure, but does it replace that tempting asphalt road altogether, or is it a last-minute diversion at the top?
El Sombrero has some attraction too but I’m not sure if I’m up for quite that much scrambling, hehe. My radio kit is carried in a small flight case rather than in a rucksack, which is only a minor annoyance as long as you don’t need both hands in order to move forwards. It’s an aspect of my setup which I’ll likely improve, but for now we’re stuck with it.
No asphalt street from the South-West up there, at least not on sotl.as or on another OSM map that I checked.
See you soon and 73, Stephan
