Huge Congratulations to @MW0CBC Denis, who achieved Goatdom today, on a challenging day out up Lochnagar GM/ES-008 and Connachcraig GM/ES-019. Denis operated as MM0CBC/P . Great to work you on 2m today!
Denis has achieved Goat in just over two years, and it’s great that he came up to GM/ES to finish the job.
My LoRa needed a check up after a moorland fire passed close by. Very close by in fact, 15-20m away. I ended up bringing it down the hill. I’m going to flash it with the latest firmware from @CA2RXU Ricardo, and set it to economy mode. Hopefully this will see it through the winter.
It was a lovely, still and mild afternoon (for October), so I sat and chilled out and waited for Denis to get to Connachcraig.
Thanks, all. I was trying to get it done in two years but that slipped about six weeks. 62 when I started and 63 when I got there. That will do.
Huge thanks to all the chasers and those other activators who have helped along the way. I’ve made some great friends, particularly up here in GM/ES.
It was a long day yesterday. Started in the dark at 06:40 and finally got back to the van at 17:15. I’ve wanted to do Lochnagar since long before I started SOTA and, for me at least, it was a perfect way to finish Goat #1. Dawn said “are you done now then?”. I replied it was a milestone, not an end-point . I won’t repeat here response!
Many congratulations Denis MW0CBC for joining the Welsh MG herd in such style! It looks as if you decided a month ago that you needed to finish the job so, with 56 to go, you scampered up some Welsh 4 and 6 pointers, took in Peel Fell on the way and then bagged 4 Scottish summits for the last 2 4s and then a 10 followed by the final 4. (Looks as if they might have you in the Welsh cricket team as well?? How do you score 10??) However, in my eyes, your record is not entirely without blemish as you seem to operate almost soley on HF once you have got up these wonderful hills but I see sense prevailed at last and you qualified the last 2 hills on 2m fm before descending to HF. I believe we have never had a contact on the way (do correct me ??) but this could be because I only operate up hills and then on 2m or 70cm fm so any contact would have to be a s2s. I look forward to it - especially, as by SOTA activator standards, you are one of our near neighbours so we might even meet on a hill. Well done - and my sympathies to Dawn as I’ve just seen your super photos and comments.
Many congratulations on becoming a Mountain Goat so rapidly! Impressive work! Thanks for the QSOs along the way, several which have been completes for me.
Thank you for your kind words. I try to take a strategic approach to anything I do and I was determined to achieve Goat somewhere in the Cairngorms, during this trip.
I will always do 2m by request but, particularly around South Wales during the week, I often found it unsuccessful. I do remember working you from your home station on at least two occasions. Once was when you saved a horribly wet activation on Garway Hill. I was very relieved to get you in the log for my forth contact that day.
